Purpose
American Legacy Academy values transparency, community engagement, and strong partnerships with families. In compliance with A.R.S. § 15-184(J), this policy establishes clear procedures for classroom visits, school tours, and parent observations to ensure that parents of enrolled students, as well as prospective families, have the opportunity to visit the school while maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
General Guidelines
1. Eligibility for Visits and Observations
- Parents or legal guardians of currently enrolled students may request to visit or observe their child’s classroom.
- Parents or legal guardians who are considering enrollment may request a tour of the school and observation opportunities.
2. Scheduling Requirements
- All visits, tours, and observations must be scheduled in advance through the school office.
- A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for classroom observations.
- Unscheduled or “drop-in” visits are not permitted for safety and instructional reasons.
3. Check-In Procedures
- All visitors must sign in at the school office, present a valid photo ID, and wear a visitor badge at all times while on campus.
- Visitors will be escorted to and from the classroom or tour area by a staff member.
4. Observation Parameters
- Classroom observations are generally limited to 30–60 minutes to minimize disruption.
- Observers must remain seated in the designated area and may not interact with students during instructional time.
- Questions or feedback must be directed to the teacher or school leader after the observation, not during class.
5. Tours for Prospective Families
- Tours will include common areas, classrooms (as appropriate), and a review of school programs and resources.
- Prospective families may request to observe classrooms; such requests will be accommodated whenever possible without disrupting learning.
6. Confidentiality and Respect
- Visitors must respect student confidentiality and may not photograph, record, or otherwise document classroom activities without prior approval from the school leader.
- Visitors are expected to model respect for students, staff, and the learning environment.
Limitations
- Visits, tours, or observations may be denied, rescheduled, or terminated if they:
- Threaten the health, safety, or welfare of students or staff.
- Disrupt the normal operation of classrooms or school activities.
- Violate student privacy or confidentiality.
